Questions about the library

How is the Camden Twp. Library Funded?

The Camden Twp. Library is funded in several different ways.  Unfortunately, none of these funding sources are guaranteed.

1. We receive State Aid from the State of Michigan.  However, each year as the state works to balance the state budget, state aid to libraries is often cut.  By law, we should receive $.50 per capita - last year we received about $.32 per capita.
2. We also receive Penal Fines from the county courthouse.  In 2009, our penal fines allocations were down 22% from 2008.
3. We are usually given small contributions from each of our local governments within our legal service area.  This includes: Camden Twp., Woodbridge Twp., Ransom Twp., Amboy Twp., Camden Village and Montgomery Village.  These contributions are voluntary gifts to the library and are greatly appreciated.
4. In 2004, the residents of Camden Township generously approved a small millage to operate the library.  We asked for the lowest amount we felt we could - 3/4 mil.  Though this millage money is guaranteed, the amount is not.  Each year, the amount decreases slightly and with local property values fluxuating, the amount we receive is not predictable.
5. We gladly accept donations.  Monetary donations are greatly appreciated.  They can be given anytime - as general donations or as memorials.
6. We do collect a very small amount of money through overdue fines, out-of-area patron fees and through our fee-based services (such as faxing and printing).
