May has arrived and we are busy getting things ready for our Summer Reading Programs. This year, we will begin our programs on Saturday, May 31st and end our programs on Saturday, August 30th. We are planning tons of fun things, so be sure to stop in and sign up on May 31.
I was very surprised with our teen advisory council at our April 21st meeting. The main goal of this meeting was to get plans going for the Teen Summer Reading Program, which this year is called, “Metamorphosis @ Your Library”. I ran down a list of ideas from my program idea book, thinking that few of them would be interesting to our teens. But how exciting when our teens all said they liked the idea of a Weight-Loss Support Group, Dancing Through the Ages, Martial Arts Demos, and Digital Photo Art Show. Wow!! These ideas really show that our teens are looking for more than just some entertainment for the summer. I am now busy working out details to get these programs on the summer line-up. We will also plan our game nights, chess tournament, and other fun (like maybe Karaoke). Watch for our details to appear on our website and in the library soon!
Our Children’s Summer Reading Program is in the development stages, too. Our theme this year is “Catch the Reading Bug!”. We are looking into some possible special programs such as: Binder Park ZooMobile, Bee Keeper visit and Fly Tying. We also plan to do a Wizards Bonus Program where the prize will be free tickets to a Fort Wayne Wizards Game. Keep watching for all the details.
This year’s Adult Summer Reading Program is called “Pollinate Your Mind”. This is our second year offering an adult program, and we hope many of you will join us.
We plan to close out our Summer Reading Programs the only real way you can if your theme is bugs - with a Picnic!! Everyone who participates in our Summer Reading Programs will be invited to join us for a Summer’s End Picnic on August 30th.
Over all, I think we have tons of fun lined up for all ages this summer. We look forward to you joining us!
